New Jersey building code requires safety glazing in specific spots: within 24 inches of a door, less than 18 inches off the floor, alongside stairs and landings, and around tubs and showers. Putting ordinary annealed glass back into one of those openings is a code violation — and the next time it breaks, it breaks into shards instead of pebbles.
Tempered glass carries a permanent etched mark in one corner. Our technician looks for it before quoting anything. If the opening calls for safety glazing, that's what we install — we don't offer the cheaper option and let you decide later.
Clear the loose glass with heavy gloves and dispose of it wrapped. Cover the opening from the inside with rigid material — plywood, cardboard backed with a board, anything that holds shape — and tape the perimeter. Plastic sheeting alone stops rain, not wind or a hand.

An insulated glass unit isn't pulled off a shelf. It's built to the exact dimensions of your sash, with the right coating, the right spacer and the right gas fill, then shipped. Fabrication and delivery set that timeline, not our schedule — and a company that quotes you two days is either using stock sizes that won't fit properly or hasn't measured yet.

Replacing just the glass costs about 80% less than replacing the whole window, and it takes a fraction of the time. If your sash and frame are sound — and in most homes they are — there's no reason to tear out a working window because one pane failed.
It also keeps the window you actually have. On older houses that matters: the sash profile, the muntin width and the wavy old glass in the panes next to it are things no stock replacement will match.

Most homes we visit have three to six units that have already failed and the owner never noticed — because a failed seal only shows up in certain light. You get the list, with photos. What you do with it is up to you.
If your window carries a manufacturer's mark, we match the glass to it. If the manufacturer no longer supports the unit — common on anything over fifteen years old, and the reason most people end up here — we replace the glass without touching the frame.

In the large majority of cases, just the glass. The frame and sash are structural; the glass is a consumable part that sits inside them. Unless the wood is rotted through or the frame has shifted out of square, replacing the pane restores the window completely — for roughly 80% less than a full replacement.
Look for a small etched stamp — usually called a bug — in one corner of the pane. It names the manufacturer and the safety standard. If the glass is already shattered, the break pattern tells us: tempered glass crumbles into small blunt pebbles, ordinary annealed glass breaks into long sharp shards. Our technician checks either way before quoting.
Single pane glass goes in within a week. A double pane insulated unit takes one to two weeks, because the unit is manufactured to the exact size of your opening and then shipped. Your estimate comes back the same day you send a photo.

Usually, yes. We match thickness, tint, coating and — where it exists — the obscure or patterned texture. On very old houses the original wavy glass can't be reproduced exactly; in those cases we'll show you the closest available option and let you decide before anything is ordered.

We repair it before the new glass goes in. Putting a new pane into a rotted or out-of-square sash guarantees you'll be calling someone again within a season. If the damage is extensive we'll quote the repair separately so you can see exactly what you're paying for.
